From “In Touch”:
The core self is a composite of feelings of knowing (I am the knower),
object saliency (what makes something stand out from other things),
perspective (I am in here),
ownership (this body is mine),
and agency (I am doing it).
Ramachandran writes that the conscious self neither “inhabits a special throne at the center of the neural labyrinth,” nor is it a “property of the whole brain.
Instead, the self seems to emerge from a relatively small cluster of brain areas that are linked into an amazingly powerful network.”

Interesting. If the sense of Self emanates from a relatively small cluster of brain areas, then damage to this area could erase or reprogram an entirely different felt sense. Imagine an entire life could be rewritten.
