When things flare up, focus and awareness are key

We must limit the depth we fall when PTSD, anxiety or depression grabs us.

Sometimes we need to play defense, using focus and awareness.

I refuse to make any decisions when PTSD flares. My thoughts can be irrational, highly emotional and extremely negative.

A good amount of my time is spent letting go of the negative thoughts.

Awareness helps us steer attention away from thought and to the present moment.

Another helpful activity is exercise, strenuous if you are capable.

Keep yourself busy and focused for a day or two until things settle down.

Know that the crisis will pass and things will return to what your normal has been.

If we can let go of our thoughts, we limit the depth of depression, anxiety and PTSD.

Healing is cultivated better when we keep our minds calm and focused.

This post completely speaks to me. My wife has become my primary trigger from the abuse I suffered at the hands of my mother when I was a kid. Somehow I am now projecting my pain upon my wife. Of course now she is traumatized, and we get into it like you wouldn’t believe. And of course I become upset, freaked out, I shut down, and I want to punish myself and by extension punish her. And when it comes to Letting Go, I feel as if I would have to let my mother off the hook in order to let it go with my wife. And she has nothing to do with him happened to me 40 years ago. God I hate this stuff. I have to keep letting it go, somehow.

You only have to let yourself off the hook.

My father was my main abuser. I came to the conclusion he was responsible for his life and I was responsible for my life.

Letting go is difficult without practice. You need to build focus by meditating, using tour breath.

Need to practice when things are calm so you can focus when triggers explode.

Our goal is to be able to breathe and focus when a trigger explodes. We let the thought and emotion go and take the breathe to the trigger manifestation in the body

My triggers usually explode in my Solar plexus

We need to learn not to react and not fear our defense

    Good luck
